Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosley, now working together again after their recent war, made members of the British Racing Drivers' Club choke over their lunch yesterday when it was announced that Donington Park has secured a contract to run the British Grand Prix from 2010 onwards.
The honours were evenly shared between Ferrari and McLaren yesterday after the first two practice sessions for a race that will be crucial to Lewis Hamilton's world championship campaign.
The voices fill his ears, just as the manic ululation of the engines - rising, falling, rising - buffeted those who came to watch his rehearsals yesterday. Voices in every register: infatuated, manipulative, stern. After many threats and much hand-wringing now it's head-shaking after
Friday's announcement that Silverstone is to be put off the Formula One
calendar in favor of Donington.
As of 2010, the British Grand Prix is to be staged at Donington Park,
according to a contract signed by Donington officials, dba Donington
Ventures Leisure Limited., and F1 commercial rights holder Bernie
Ecclestone, aka Formula One Management Limited. The contract is to run

SILVERSTONE (Reuters) - Renault's double world champion Fernando Alonso said on Friday he expects to decide his Formula One future after September's Italian Grand Prix.
The Formula One drivers will conduct another test of the new safety car system today after the second free practice session at the Silverstone circuit. The new test comes after a first try-out at the French GP a fortnight ago.
The owners of Donington Park declared that they will fund a five-year £100 million investment programme into the circuit as part of its new 10-year deal to host the British Grand Prix. In a statement by Donington Park, the track said that funding for the redevelopment would be led by a private investor who is also a shareholder in the company.
Heikki Kovalainen proved fastest in the second free practice for the British Grand Prix. He is followed by Webber, Hamilton and Coulthard. Felipe Massa meanwhile had to sit out most of the session while his mechanics were repairing his Ferrari from an earlier crash in FP1.
After the announcement of the FIA that Donington Park will organise the British Grand Prix from 2010, Silverstone has expressed its disappointment in a statement. The race at the historic track was under threat for a months as Bernie Ecclestone demanded a serious upgrade of the circuit.
It was a busy day of preparation work for AT-T Williams at Silverstone today. At the team’s home track, drivers Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima, having already benefited from a three day test here last week, continued their set-up work ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying and Sunday’s British Grand Prix.
The day after the retirement announcement of David Coulthard and the announcement that Mark Webber got a new contract with Red Bull Racing for 2009, the two drivers seem to fly at the Silverstone track. During the second free practice session, Webber clocked the second time while team mate Coulthard finished 4th.
After a day of fun with the batmobile, Toyota went back to work today at Silverstone. It wasn't a picnic for the Cologne-based team as both cars missed the second session. Glock suffered a clutch problem and Trulli had a problem with his rear wing.
